On 8 May, Kangaroo Study successfully held the P4 Exploration Class Selection Test. The event attracted students and parents who are interested in Math Olympiad competitions and long-term academic planning. While students attended the selection test, parents joined a seminar on “Singapore Primary & Secondary Math Olympiad Competitions and Learning Planning” to better understand Singapore’s math competition system and the training approach of the Kangaroo Study’s Exploration Class.
The Exploration Class selection test was designed to assess students’ mathematical ability, thinking skills, and learning potential. During the test, students were fully engaged and put careful thought into every question, approaching the paper with focus and seriousness throughout the session.

At the same time, the parent seminar was conducted in a lively and engaging atmosphere. The seminar was led by Math Olympiad coach Tr Gao Xuming, who shared about Singapore’s Math Olympiad system, competition planning, learning focus at different stages, and the goals of the Exploration Class. This helped parents better understand their children’s future learning pathways.

Drawing from his years of teaching experience, Tr Gao explained the connections between competitions such as NMOS, RMO, APMOPS, and SMO, as well as how students from different levels can plan their learning step by step. Many parents shared that the seminar gave them a clearer understanding of Singapore’s math competition landscape and their children’s future learning direction.

During the seminar, Tr Gao also introduced the teaching approach behind the Kangaroo Study Exploration Class. The class focuses not only on competition results, but also on building students’ long-term learning abilities and mathematical thinking. Besides providing both depth and challenge in the curriculum, the class also emphasizes good learning habits, study methods, and developing interest in mathematics, helping students become more independent and confident learners.

In recent years, Kangaroo Study Exploration Class students have achieved excellent results in competitions such as NMOS, RMO, APMOPS, and SMO, all of which are built on long-term systematic learning and training.

APMOPS: 14 students participated in APMOPS, with 4 students receiving Platinum awards.
NMOS: 85% of students achieved Gold awards, and 1 student was selected for the IMSO national team. Top 30 results are yet to be released.
02 Secondary Exploration Class
2023:
All 10 Secondary 2 Exploration Class students advanced to Round 2 of SMO. Among them, 6 students entered the Top 30, 4 students entered the Top 10, and 5 students were selected for the Junior Training Team.
2024:
Among the 19 Exploration Class students, 100% advanced to Round 2 of SMO. 16 students were selected for the SMO Junior Team for the first time, with 10 students entering the Top 30 and 3 students entering the Top 10.
In addition, student Yang was selected for Singapore’s IMO national team (6 students in total) and won the team’s only Gold medal, ranking 14th globally.
2025:
41 students advanced to Round 2 of SMO, with 17 students selected for the SMO Junior Team for the first time. 15 students entered the Top 30 and 5 students entered the Top 10. Student Yang once again represented Singapore and won a Gold medal at IMO.
During the event, some parents also spoke with the teachers about their children’s current learning progress, future competition planning, and how to focus on different learning goals at each stage. Based on each student’s situation, Tr Gao also provided personalised advice and recommendations.

What’s Next?
This Exploration Class selection test was not just an exam, but also an opportunity for students to learn and improve.
After the test, our teacher will conduct a paper review class on 13 May at 6:00 PM, helping students review problem-solving methods, understand common mistakes, and learn new competition techniques while strengthening weaker areas.
Teachers will also provide personalised analysis and feedback based on each student’s performance, helping parents better understand their child’s current learning level and providing recommendations for future learning plans.
Students who are successfully admitted into the Exploration Class will enjoy a 50% course fee discount, along with opportunities to receive exclusive scholarships based on competition achievements and semester assessments.
The Exploration Class is not only about competitions. More importantly, it aims to help students build stronger thinking skills, gain confidence in learning, and discover the joy of mathematics through more challenging and meaningful learning experiences.
We look forward to welcoming more students into the Kangaroo Study Exploration Class and seeing them continue to grow through challenges and breakthroughs in their learning journey.
