Semester 1 has come to a meaningful close. In this Semester 1 recap, we invited Tr Boqian, Tr Xuming and Tr Yijie to share the challenges our students faced, the progress they made, and what they can look forward to in the upcoming June Holiday Programme.

“Stay Curious and Step Out of Your Comfort Zone”
Hello everyone, I'm Tr Boqian! 😊
During Semester 1, our lessons were largely focused on NMOS preparation. Students systematically explored key topics such as Number Theory, Geometry, Counting, Advanced Calculations, Speed Problems and Mixed Problem Solving. Through these topics, they gradually built a strong mathematical foundation and prepared themselves for more challenging learning ahead.
Looking back on the semester, one thing stands out to me: interest is always the best teacher. Math Olympiad is not only about learning problem-solving techniques, but also about developing the habit of thinking independently and exploring new ideas. I have always hoped to share my passion for mathematics with my students and help them discover the joy of learning through thinking.

One student in particular left a deep impression on me this semester. At the beginning of the year, he was very shy and rarely volunteered answers in class. With continuous encouragement, he gradually became more willing to share his ideas and started finding satisfaction in solving problems. Over time, he became an active participant in class discussions and even took the initiative to prepare weekly slides and record solution videos to share with me. Seeing his growth has been truly rewarding.

Beyond learning new concepts, I also place great emphasis on developing good problem-solving habits. In class, I guide students to identify key information, break down complex questions and clearly present their solutions. As the semester progressed, more students developed structured thinking habits and became increasingly confident in expressing their reasoning.

The Next Step|Tr Boqian‘s June Holiday Plan for P4
The June Holiday Programme is just around the corner. During the holiday lessons, students will be introduced to important topics such as the Pigeonhole Principle, Smart Calculation with Integers, Decimal Calculations, Fraction Word Problems, Linear Equations, Ratio & Proportion, and Geometric Transformation. These topics will provide a strong foundation for more advanced Math Olympiad learning in the future.
Besides learning new concepts, I also hope to help students further develop good problem-solving habits, including identifying key information, presenting solutions clearly, and expressing their thinking in a logical and organised manner. I encourage everyone to stay curious, be willing to take on new challenges, and continue making meaningful progress during the holidays.

“Every Effort Counts”
Hello everyone, I'm Tr Gao!
P5 is often considered one of the most challenging stages in a student's Math Olympiad journey.
At this level, students are introduced to more abstract mathematical concepts, advanced theorems and transformation techniques. They also begin preparing for some of the most important competitions at the primary school level, including NMOS, RMO and APMOPS. Compared to the lower primary, both the content and the thinking skills required become significantly more demanding. What makes me especially proud is the enthusiasm and perseverance our students have shown in the face of these challenges.

Before evening lessons, students often arrive more than an hour early to seek help from me. After class, many continue working on corrections and challenging questions on their own. I have seen their effort and dedication throughout the semester.
What truly matters in mathematics is not simply how many concepts we learn. More importantly, it is about developing good learning habits, effective ways of thinking, and the resilience to keep going when faced with difficulties.
To all my students, I would like to say this: you have done an amazing job this semester. Give yourselves a big pat on the back. Your hard work and perseverance will pay off, and I am confident that you will achieve your goals in the upcoming competitions and continue making even greater progress in the years ahead.

“From Adapting to Challenges to Developing Higher-Order Thinking”
Hihi, I'm Tr Yijie! 😊
As Semester 1 comes to an end, I am incredibly proud of the progress our students have made.
This semester, students worked through a large amount of advanced and challenging content. We began with advanced calculation techniques and fraction decomposition before moving on to geometry area models such as the Bird-Head, Swallow-tail and Butterfly models. We also explored challenging topics such as Diophantine Equations and Travel Problems Involving Ratios, constantly pushing students to expand their thinking.

At the beginning, many students found the transition difficult, which is completely normal. At this stage, many problems can no longer be solved through simple calculations alone and require stronger analytical and reasoning skills. With guidance through our Nine-Step Teaching Method, students demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination.

What makes me happiest is not just their academic improvement, but the confidence and problem-solving ability they have developed. More students are now able to draw area models independently, analyse complex conditions, and break down multi-step word problems on their own. Through their hard work this semester, they have built a stronger mathematical foundation and are well prepared for future challenges.

The Next Step|Tr Xuming & Tr Yijie's June Holiday Plan for P5
For our P5 students, the upcoming June Holiday Programme will be a crucial final preparation phase before NMOS.
Across 8 intensive lessons, students will systematically review and consolidate the seven key NMOS components: Word Problems, Advanced Calculations, Geometry, Counting, Number Theory, Mixed Problem Solving and Speed Problems.
In addition to structured lessons, students will also take part in past-year paper practice, mock tests and targeted Q&A sessions. Our goal is not only to strengthen students' understanding of key concepts, but also to help them apply their knowledge quickly and accurately under real exam conditions.
We hope all students will carry forward the confidence and experience they have gained this semester, continue embracing new challenges, and perform at their very best in the upcoming NMOS.

In Conclusion
As we enter the June Holiday Programme and the NMOS preparation season, new challenges and opportunities for growth lie ahead.
Looking back on Semester 1, we have witnessed more than just academic progress. We have seen students develop stronger thinking skills, better learning habits, greater confidence and a resilient mindset.
At Kangaroo Study, we believe that the value of Math Olympiad goes beyond competition results. More importantly, it helps students develop lifelong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while building the courage and determination to overcome challenges and keep moving forward. ❤️
