APMOPS Open Class Recap: Learning Squares and Rectangles with Tr. Yu Xian

On Sunday, August 24, Tr. Yu Xian conducted an APMOPS open class for P5 students at Kangaroo Study. The lesson was structured around four representative problems, each designed to highlight a critical skillset:

• Question 1: An introduction to finding area and perimeter without given values, requiring students to rely on formula relationships and logical deduction.
• Question 2: Application of algebra in solving area and perimeter change problems, encouraging students to translate geometry into equations.
• Question 3: A continuation and extension of algebraic applications, strengthening students’ ability to integrate algebra and geometry.
• Question 4: Pattern recognition in rectangular area problems, where students learned to identify recurring structures and summarise shortcuts for efficient solutions.

This interactive approach not only reinforced conceptual understanding but also trained students to think critically and systematically. About the Teacher [附件不存在] Graduated with a major in Data Science and Analytics (BSc. Hons) from the National University of Singapore. Teacher Yu Xian has 7+ years of experience in teaching Maths and Sciences. An ASEAN Scholarship holder and Math Olympiad awardee, he has earned accolades such as SMO Silver and AMC Gold. Currently serving as Kangaroo Study’s P5 InCharge, he specializes in guiding students in Math Olympiad preparation through encouraging curiosity and independent thinking.
